About Public Safety Testing
All entry level police officer and custody officer training is conducted through Public Safety Testing. The hiring process is as follows:
- Physical ability tests (PAT) - Pass or Fail Examination
- PST Written Exam - weighted 100%
- Top 20 placed on Eligibility List
- Criminal background check, psychological assessment, polygraph, and medical assessment
- Chief's and/or Command Interview
- Basic Law Enforcement Academy through Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission
Police Cadets, Clerks and Civilians
The Lynnwood Police Department employs police cadets, clerks and civilians as well. Police Cadets are College students who work on a part-time basis and generally these are students in criminal justice programs. Police Cadets provide many services to the department. Police clerks and other positions are open on a periodic basis.
Police Cadet Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be currently enrolled at a college or university
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Criminal background check, polygraph, and drug screening
- Chief's and/or Command Interview
