Proclamations, Letters of Recognition, and Welcome Greetings

The City of Lynnwood wishes to show support of our community members, affinity groups, and highlight people and causes important to the Lynnwood community.

Members of the community can request a proclamation, a letter of recognition, or a welcome letter from the Mayor.  

Requests must be received at least 6 weeks in advance of the date you'd like the proclamation/letter/greeting. Requests are not renewed and must be requested each year. 

Proclamations From The Mayor

Guidelines for Proclamations:

Proclamations are to be utilized exclusively for ceremonial and recognition purposes. They are not to have policy implications or suggest an official City position on a cause or occasion. The City does publicize calendared proclamations issued by the Mayor and City Council. For other proclamations, it is the responsibility of the requesting organization to publicize the City’s issuance of the proclamation.

  1. Proclamations are generally issued to:
    • Commemorate national times of recognition.
    • Celebrate the contributions and achievements of community members and non-profit organizations that serve Lynnwood.
    • Highlight the importance of special events within the community.
    • Increases public awareness on causes or occasions that improve the safety, health, and well-being of people in Lynnwood.
  2. Proclamations deemed to be requested for the following purposes will not be issued:
    • Matters of political controversy, including national or world politics, conflict or strife.
    • Matters that are discriminatory or exclusionary in nature.
    • Individuals/organizations seeking political or commercial endorsement.
    • Religious events or matters of a religious nature.
    • Individuals/organizations with no direct relationship to the City of Lynnwood.
    • Events contrary to City policies.

Letter of Recognition From The Mayor

Guidelines for Letters of Recognition:

Welcome Greeting From The Mayor

Guidelines for Welcome Greeting from the Mayor:
Welcome greetings are to be utilized exclusively for ceremonial and recognition purposes.

  1. Welcome Greetings are generally issued to:
  • An organization or affinity group hosting an event, gathering or celebration in the City of Lynnwood.
  • Highlight the importance of special events within the community.
  • Highlight that Lynnwood is a welcoming city where all area welcome and all belong.

2.  Welcome Greetings deemed to be requested for the following purposes will not be issued:

  • Matters of political controversy, including national or world politics, conflict or strife.
  • Matters that are discriminatory or exclusionary in nature.
  • Individuals/organizations seeking political or commercial endorsement.
  • Events contrary to City policies.

The City reserves the right to approve or deny request for proclamation or other official city recognition or make edits to any sample or model language provided, based on additional criteria that may not be explicitly listed above.
