Special Meeting Notices

The City Council Meeting on Thursday, June 20, 2024, has been canceled. The purpose of the meeting was to hold interviews for the vacant City Council position. Council requires additional information from applicants before interviews can take place. There will also be Special Meetings on Tuesday, July 9 at 6:00 pm for the purpose of interview applicants, and Wednesday, July 10 at 6:00 pm for the purpose of interviewing applicants, evaluating their qualifications, and appointing a new Councilmember. The meetings will be held in Council Chambers at Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, Washington 98036.


The Lynnwood City Council is the legislative branch of city government that represents city residents in establishing both policy and legislative direction to the administrative branch. Through proactive leadership, the City Council provides direction on services and facilities to meet the needs of our growing, diverse community.

Meeting Information

Business meetings: 2nd and 4th Mondays of the Month (public comments welcomed); Work sessions on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and 3rd Wednesdays of the month (no public comments). 

All business of the City Council is conducted in public and community members are welcome to attend meetings. Meetings are conducted in a hybrid manner, with both in-person and virtual options.

The seven members of the Lynnwood City Council are elected at-large for four-year terms. Some of their duties include:

  • Citizen representation for the City of Lynnwood
  • Provide for public safety and health
  • Make laws
  • Adopt regulations and budgets
  • Levy taxes
  • Authorize public improvements
  • Issue Proclamations

 

WORK SESSIONS

Work Sessions are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month and the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

During Work Sessions City Council Members are able to discuss topics, receive briefings, reports and memorandums from City staff as well as hear presentations from City staff and outside organizations. During a Work Session, no formal decisions can be made by the Council. The Council follows Robert's Rules of Order during their meetings to allow for courtesy and orderly flow of the meetings. During Work Sessions is not an opportunity for public comments.

BUSINESS MEETINGS

Regular Business Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.

Business Meetings follow a very formal and specific format. During a Regular Business Meeting City Council Members make a formal vote on items that were discussed at a previous Work Session, adopt previous meeting minutes, and present proclamations and resolutions. During Regular Business Meetings members of the public have an opportunity during the 'Citizen Comments' portion of the agenda to make a comment to the Council on any topic.

OTHER MEETINGS

Periodically the City Council holds other meetings such as Special Work Sessions and Special Business Meetings. During these meetings, only the items listed on the agenda may be discussed. 

PUBLIC HEARINGS

Public Hearings may be held during Regular Business Meetings or Special Business Meetings, and allows the public to attend and make a comment regarding the specific topic of the public hearing. 

Three members of the City Council serve on the Finance Committee to provide guidance on fiscal matters and new proposals with budgetary impacts. Meetings of the Finance Committee are open to the public, and will be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 3:30 PM.  To join the meeting via zoom, click here.

These meetings do not include public comment, but do offer residents and opportunity to observe discussions on important financial topics. Normally the Finance Committee does not meet during the months of August and December.
