Friends of South Lynnwood Parks

City of Lynnwood Parks welcomes volunteers of all abilities who want to contribute to the restoration and conservation of our parks in South Lynnwood Neighborhood.

The goal of each event is to provide a safe, enjoyable, and effective hands-on experience for you to help improve the health of your urban parks.

These monthly events, which will be held on the third weekend of each month, will involve removing invasive plants, help with restoration plantings, and picking up garbage. These events will rotate throughout Scriber Lake Park, Sprague's Pond Mini-Park, Scriber Creek Park, and South Lynnwood Neighborhood Park.

Events are 100% outdoors and will generally be held ‘rain or shine’ but may be canceled or relocated if weather or site conditions are unsafe such as high winds, flooding, snow, lightening, or unsafe air quality (smoke).

Gloves, tools, and training by our Urban Forester and/or Parks Maintenance crew.

Power tools are not provided, and we do not allow volunteers to bring them.

Orientation/Training: Prior to beginning work at the site, we will discuss what the goals are for the volunteer event and perform a training demo.

The Urban Forester will be there to supervise the volunteer events and be of assistance to help with all questions.

Required:

• Closed toe shoes

 Recommended:

• Wear clothes that will protect against plants that have spikes/thorns and clothes that you are comfortable with getting dirty
• Dependent on weather conditions: rain pants, rain jacket, warm layers, long pants and long sleeves are recommended
• Bring personal water and snacks
• In Summer: hat and sunscreen for UV protection

This stewardship program is being supported by a USDA Forest Service Grant Award to the City of Lynnwood. The City of Lynnwood was awarded $1.3 million dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act supporting the goals of the Urban and Community Forest Program.  The scope of the stewardship events will be performed within the South Lynnwood area because it was identified by the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST) as the City’s disadvantaged community.
