Patty McNamee

Patty is a realistic painter who has a distinctive perspective in how she defines her art.  She is always observing the environment around her and loves to find an interesting composition to paint. Patty’s quirky personality is expressed through her paintings.

Patty graduated with a degree in Art with an emphasis in illustration.  After graduation Patty worked with a number of graphic design firms and an ad agency, transitioning out of commercial art in the 1990’s.  In the past decade has renewed her love for producing her own art.  Patty works in oils, watercolor and relief printmaking.  She is in a mentorship program with Liana Bennett in Bothell and has taken additional classes and workshops with Jennifer Diehl, Andy Eccleshall, Pam Ingalls, Karen Klee-Atlin, Stan Kurth and Peggy Kroll Roberts.  Patty has won several awards for her paintings and has been in a number of art shows, juried exhibitions and the Edmonds Art Studio Tour.

I have recently started using cold wax and oil paint in my artistic practice.  I am loving the way it works with the direction I am going with my paintings.  Layers of color are built up, carved into and built upon again.  It is like excavating to find what is hidden beneath the surface, and then rebuilding.  The colors are rich with the oil paint added to the cold wax medium.  The texture is somewhat like frosting a cake.  Squeegies, scrapers, brayers and carving tools are used in this process.  There is an element of surprise that I really enjoy in the process.

Lynn Hanson has been an artist for over 30 years.  She moved to the Northwest from San Diego, after graduating with a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 2005.  After working in several galleries in the area, Lynn decided to open her own gallery in Pioneer Square, Lynn Hanson Gallery.  The gallery has been up and running for 13 years in 3 different spaces in the Tashiro Kaplan Building.  Lynn loves working with artists in this very creative city.  Another of her favorite things to do is to hang new shows monthly in her gallery and being part of First Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square which is the oldest art walk in the United States. Her gallery has been a part of the Seattle Art Fair for 3 years.

Lynn is also on the Lynnwood Arts Commission as well as the Art Walk Edmonds Board and the Events and Mural Committees for AWE.

Artist Statement: My grandma says that I’ve been drawing ever since I could hold something in my hand. I like to draw people, and I like trying to get their proportions right. When I was younger, I also liked to draw fairies, flowers, and cats. The most fun thing to draw is funny comics. I’ve been drawing a lot of manga lately. I also like to draw because I’m proud that I’m good at something others find so hard.

Biography: I’m 11 years old, and I live in Seattle with my mom, my dad, two sisters, and two adorable cats. I go to McDonald Elementary School.

Other than drawing, I like to read, eat yummy food, play The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, and other Nintendo games. I play with my friends, make flower bouquets, and play musical instruments with my friends.
